All the Details here about your Procedure
Procedure Information
Before your Procedure
Two weeks prior to your vasectomy, please stop taking Aspirin and anti-inflammatories. These medications reduce the ability of blood to clot.
- Asprin is located in an array of medications including: Aspro, Aspalgin , Cartia, Disprin, Solprin
- Common anti-inflammatory medications includes: Nurofen, Voltaren, Mobic and Celebrex
One week prior shave around the penis to the bottom of the scrotum. Do NOT use “hair remover creams”. Arrange for someone to drive you home from the procedure.
On the day of the procedure
- Please take a shower before your appointment
- No eating for 4 hours beforehand
- No drinking for 2 hours beforehand
During the Procedure
Local anaesthetic is injected into the area, this numbs the area for a painless procedure.
A small incision is made into the scrotum. The tubes on each side are cut and separated. With the open-ended technique, one end is left open to reduce pressure on the testis.
Should you feel anxious; a Penthrox inhaler is available, it is easy to use and will help you feel more relaxed. This inhaler is also known in the medical community as the “green stick”.
Although vasectomy reversals are possible, a vasectomy should be considered a permanent form of birth control.
